I was honoured that the representatives of the Tabaco Relocation Comitee asked me to assist as an independent facilitator in the negotiations with Cerrejón towards the settlement of outstanding issues, and was particularly delighted when, on December 12, 2008, the final agreement was reached.

Bogota, December 23, 2008. Yesterday Cerrejón made 43% of its indemnity and compensation payments, totaling $778,660.61 US dollars. These payments were a product of the final agreement reached between Cerrejón and the Tabaco Relocation Committee (TRC), bringing about a solution to previously outstanding resettlement issues.

In November, the new Recreation Centre in the town of Albania was inaugurated by the Council of Special Projects of the Presidency of the Republic, the Children’s Day Corporation , the Mayorship of Albania, and Cerrejón, the last mentioned entity is supporting the Centre with a contribution of over one hundred and forty million pesos.
