León Teicher, new president of the Regional Commission for Competitiveness in La Guajira

León Teicher, President of Cerrejón, took office today as the new president of this important commission, whose purpose is to seek agreements among the leading representatives of La Guajira to unite skills and develop projects in pursuit of competitiveness and sustainability in this region.

The Regional Commission for Competitiveness in La Guajira is composed of 29 members, including unions, NGOs, and vulnerable populations, among others, and has been active since 2008.

During the event, held at 10:00 a.m. in the Chamber of Commerce in La Guajira, in the city of Riohacha, León Teicher said he was delighted to have the opportunity to participate in a mechanism that seeks to transform the region's productivity. "It is a great honor and a demonstration of the trust that the civil society places in a company like Cerrejón, a company which has become increasingly open to society and wants to be a productive member of this society," said León Teicher, President of Cerrejón and the Regional Commission for Competitiveness in La Guajira.

The President of Cerrejón, in this office, will replace Jose Antonio Manjarrés, who expressed the importance of the participation of Cerrejón in this type of initiative that seeks to create partnerships between the public and private sectors in order to develop joint projects benefiting the Guajiran community. "We are delighted that León Teicher, President of Cerrejón, succeeds us in this office because we know that it will open new doors for work opportunities and bring foreign investment to La Guajira in order to coordinate at national level, in the private and public sectors, the strategic projects that La Guajira needs in the development plan, "said Jose Antonio Manjarrés.

As part of his new role, León Teicher, invites all Guajirans to participate actively in the definition of the Regional Competitiveness Plan in order to identify together the projects likely to have a greater impact in the region.

León Teicher has served as President of Cerrejón since May 2006. In his early career, he worked in Silicon Valley in California, USA, then was Vice President of Marketing and Sales for Carbones de Colombia SA, Carbocol, a member of its Board of Directors, President and General Manager of various operations of Unisys Corporation in USA and in Latin America, and President of Xeon Technology Corporation in Canada.
