Celebration of Saint Barbara

Once again, Cerrejón has joined in the religious celebration and festivities that are so important to its communities by participating in the feast of Saint Barbara on 4 December 2008. The entire community came together around the image of their Patron in a solemn, heartfelt procession through Hato Nuevo, accompanied by the Parish Priest, as far as her resting place, Ms. Clara Arevalo's house, where a Mass was said.

Fossil of the Largest Snake in the World Found in Cerrejón’s Mine

In the process of removing and handling steril material and coal during the mining process in Cerrejón, various fascinating paleontological fossils have been found, including a tortoise shell, giant palm leaves and other plants, among others. Despite these finds, a giant snake fossil has recieved the most attention for exceeding the expectations in size known by scientists. The discoverers of the fossil named it Titanoboa cerrejonensis, which means “colassal boa of Cerrejón.”
