Cerrejón coal is an unwashed product coming from a blend of seams whose individual calorific value ranges from <10,000 BTU/lb GAR to >12,100 BTU/lb GAR. The products of 6,000 kcal/kg NAR (~11,350 BTU/lb GAR) or less contain slightly more than 11% ash (typical), while at calorific values greater than 6,000 kcal/kg NAR, the ash content is around or below 10%.

Volatile Matter of Cerrejón coal is between 31 and 34%, whilst total sulphur content is less than 0.85%.

Most of our coal is used in electric power generation, while a small proportion is used in industry and home heating.

The excellent performance of our coal in various combustion processes over more than 20 years has placed it in an outstanding position in Europe and North America.
