Environmental management includes preservation, measuring and education programs in air, water, soil, forest and fauna resources, which are carried out at Mine, Railroad and Port facilities with the active participation of all workers.
These programs also include studies on: Puerto Bolívar Marine Biota; Microclimate and Atmospheric Dispersion at the Mine and Port; Production and Characterization of Solid Residues; Vegetation Communities and Forest Inventories in future Mining areas; hydrobiologic studies at Ranchería River and its main affluents; and Environmental Impact Studies on new mine expansion and infrastructure projects.
The following programs were established after carrying out the Environment Impact Study in 1980, which produced technical, scientific, cultural and socio-economical information about the region, and after constructing the environmental infrastructure of the coal complex.
