The company has established protected forest areas, where deforestation and hunting are prohibited. In this manner, several native species, such as the small cayman, deer, iguana, green turtle and cardinals are preserved. We have created rock formations to facilitate the establishment of minor fauna, in order to promote the repopulation of rehabilitated areas.
Cerrejón participates with Corpoguajira in a Conservation Program for sea water alligators, involving fishermen as "guardians of crocodiles".
The environmental process includes an education program intended for employees, contracting companies and adjacent communities.
The environmental control program at Cerrejón has minimized the potentially adverse impacts on the environment. The open pit coal mine operation is carried out in a responsible manner, in harmony with nature and complying with current legislation.
