Inhabitants of Roche plant trees and plant life

Taking advantage of the possibilities for the use of 25 hectares of land, its natural fertility, its proximity to the River Ranchería and local irrigation, the inhabitants of Roche and Cerrejón planned to plant new trees native to the region, which will grow alongside the community and be witnesses of its progress.

Under their agreement, Cerrejón and the Lions Club start the third cycle of eye operations

Residents of Roche, Patilla, Chancleta and Oreganal and the indigenous community of Tamaquito in the jurisdiction of the municipality of Barrancas - La Guajira, travelled to Barranquilla for their surgical eye operations under the agreement between Carbones del Cerrejón and the Monarca - Barranquilla Lions Club.

Memories of a Culture “Leaving your Mark”

Since the first of April, Cerrejón has been conducting workshops on manual printing in the communities of Patilla, Chancleta, Oreganal and the indigenous community of Tamaquito, with a view to supporting the processes of reading and writing, and forming authors of texts, who, amongst others, will be initiating a way of rescuing the collective memories of the population.
While the workshop was taking place, fun activities, music and art were used to inspire the children, young people and adults to relate their traditions and customs, experiences, myths and legends.

Closure Decree and Profiling/Characterisation of the populations of Patilla and Chancleta

As part of the Process of Resettlement that Cerrejón is carrying out in the hamlets of Patilla and Chancleta, the Municipal Administration of Barrancas organised a meeting with the communities to inform them that, by means of an administrative act, the mayor, Juan Carlos León, had signed the resolutions No.087 and 088 of 2008, in which, the boundaries and existing buildings in the hamlets of Patilla and Chancleta are determined.

In Roche Population distribution and housing design agreement signed

With the signature of an agreement between the Roche community, representatives of the Offices of the Barrancas Mayor and Municipal Attorney, the distribution and physical organization of the people of Roche and the design of the houses to be built on the San Francisco property were formally established.

Training that creates new life projects

"I'm so happy to have achieved this goal and I'm grateful to Cerrejón for arranging and sponsoring these activities which contribute to our personal development and that of the communities", said Shirly Ramos, one of the 84 women who were presented with their certificates on 25 October after completing and passing the courses in enterprise, cutting and sewing, sweat suits and skirts, manicure, pedicure and hair dyeing and drying provided by Cerrejón in an alliance with the National Apprenticeship Service, SENA, in the Patilla and Chancleta communities.

Resettlement Plan for Patilla and Chancleta

In designing a participative plan for resettlement of the communities of Patilla and Chancleta, Cerrejon’s Social Programmes office has initiated a variety of activities to help facilitate this process. Prior to implementing the plan, Cerrejon wanted to underscore the fact that this is an inclusive process, involving all community members.
