Constructing the Future with the Community of Patilla
28 September 2009
A warm sunny day was the setting for the drawing up of the housing sketch designs, by the community of Patilla eligible for relocation. Last Wednesday, 16 September, they met near the community office, and with bricks, sand, cement, and highly motivated by the activity, they built the foundations for what will be their homes in the future.

The activity was organised together with the community in order to offer spatial orientation in the various areas of bedrooms, living room, bathroom and kitchen, and thus complement the general idea of the 3D designs. The people, themselves, with their enthusiasm, shovels, trowels, picks, and stakes were the protagonists of the morning. Those present from the communities to be relocated were organised into groups, each with explicit responsibilities, and each made a special contribution to ensure that the outcome of the activity was successful and that it achieved its aim. After completing the sketches, they had the chance to walk around the area and get an accurate picture of what their homes would be like. There were various opinions with respect to this, which will be brought up and discussed at the next workshop.

Right after the small scale construction had been completed, the women prepared a delicious stew, which served as a reward for the weary builders and, at the same time, served to unify and integrate all the families. The activity had the backing of delegates from the Ministry of Government and Planning from the Town Hall of Barrancas, Carmen Raquel Peláez and Ronald Romero, as well as the delegate from the Personería, Alfredo Ospino.
