Cerrejón´s vision includes complying with the highest standards in terms of safety, and we have a policy of “Safety, Health and Environment” (SHE) which stimulates us to obtain excellent results in these aspects by working on the effective control of risks. With this value we seek to maintain a workplace where the people can work without injuring themselves. The operations of employees and contractors make Cerrejón one of the safest mines in the world.
To make this vision and this value real, the Presidency of Cerrejón established a Policy of “Safety, Health, Environment and Communities” (SHEC), which is developed through the application of the System of Operational Integrity (SOI), a risk management system for the four aspects contemplated in SHEC, within a process of continuous improvement.
The System of Operational Integrity (SOI) was certified in November, 2003 by international regulations ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001. In 2006 it was certified again by these regulations upon the end of three years term of the certification, as established in this process.
In order to accomplish the best practices of the mining industry in SHEC, we promote continuous improvement and SOI is periodically evaluated, both internally and externally, by Cerrejón’s shareholders as well as by external organizations.
