Cerrejón delivers three vehicles to beneficiaries of Tabaco Network

Cerrejón delivered three 2008 model Renault Citius public service vehicles to, respectively, Enrique Arregoces, Javier Arregoces and Nolberto Mendoza, the first beneficiaries of the Fund created by Cerrejón to finance sustainable productive projects and increase the income of families who belong to of the Tabaco Endogenous Development Network.

Tabaco Network announces viable projects

Within the framework of the process of bringing the Tabaco community and Cerrejón closer together, the TABACO ENDOGENOUS DEVELOPMENT NETWORK, whose long term objective is progress towards the autonomy of local actors, has been gradually built up since the beginning of this year to contribute to their empowerment as protagonists and creators of regional and local development, allowing them to take advantage of their potential to broaden their horizons and possibilities.

The Endogenous Development Tabaco Network continued its activities and there was a positive response from the community to the call for ideas for economic projects. A total of 128 ideas were presented, of which 70 are considered viable for support by an investment fund financed by Cerrejón.

In 2005 with the aide of consultant Gustavo Wilches-Chaux, Cerrejón carried out a study on the socio economic situation of the former residents of Tabaco with the purpose of identifying community needs to initiate a process for work and livelihood plan, as part of the Social Management Plan of Cerrejón’s Communities and Lands Division.
